Former frontman for Deep Purple and Black Sabbath Glenn Hughes and drumming legend Jason Bonham put the trio California Breed together, with a little help from Hughes friend Julian Lennon, and announced a release date for their debut album.

Former Black Country Communion bandmates, Hughes was still interested in working with Bonham and wanted to continue their songwriting together, Blabbermouth.net reports. Hughes friend Julian Lennon, son of Fab Four John Lennon, suggested Hughes take a look at 23 year-old guitar-phenom Andrew Watt. After a brief session Hughes knew he needed to bring Bonham on board and California Breed was incarnated.

Ultimate Classic Rock noted, via a press release, Hughes stated “It’s proper rock, but at the same time it’s very now. I live in the moment, California Breed is where I live, breathe and where my freak flag flies.”

The self-titled debut album from the trio, produced by Dave Cobb at his Nashville studio, is scheduled for release on May 19 through Frontier Records. The deluxe edition of the album will include an extra track, “Solo”, and a DVD which include a short documentary of how the band formed.
