Chadwick Boseman is starting to make a name for himself with biopics. After playing the legendary Jackie Robinson in 42, the actor’s next gig finds him playing another legend: James Brown. The first trailer for Get On Up gives a preview of how Boseman will go as the late Godfather of Soul.

The highly anticipated film got together last summer when The Help director Tate Taylor signed on to direct. He also enlisted Help actresses Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer for roles in the film. While Taylor himself was not nominated for an Oscar for The Help, both Davis and Spencer were, with spencer winning Best Supporting Actress.

Universal is hoping that Get On Up does just as well at the Oscars. The film has received an awards-ready release date of Oct. 17.

The producers include Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer and Erica Huggins. The Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger, who was influenced by Brown’s music, is also producing.

Here’s the full trailer. Get ready for the funk.
