A Chinese plane has reportedly spotted objects that could be linked to the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. Australian planes also spotted objects that could be connected to the missing plane, which hasn’t been heard from since March 8.
The official Chinese news agency Xinhua said that the objects were seen in an area where satellite imagery previously suggested there may be possible debris, reports The Guardian. The coordinates were sent to Chinese icebreaker Xuelong and the Australian command center. Xinhua said that the objects seen include two large floating pieces and several smaller pieces.
In addition, the Associated Press reports that an Australian P3 Orion crew spotted objects in the large search area, as well, according to Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott.
The search is now centered in a remote area in the southern Indian Ocean after a few satellite images were released last week that may have shown debris there. On Sunday, France said that one of its satellites also spotted potential debris linked to the plane. One looked very similar to an object spotted by a Chinese satellite earlier.
“We are still racing against time,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei told the media. “As long as there is a glimmer of hope, our search efforts will carry on.”
There is still no explanation for the disappearance of the Boeing 777, which had 239 people onboard. The plane disappeared during a flight from Malaysia to Beijing.
