A Colorado woman who convinced her young child that he had cancer is facing a multitude of charges.

According to The New York Daily News, Sandy Nguyen convinced her 6-year-old son that he had cancer and he isn’t the only one she managed to fool.

The 28-year-old mother is accused of scamming her local community and her family out $25,000. Community events were organized to raise money and some of the boy’s classmates were kind enough to donate their lunch money.

Nguyen even went as far as to shave the boy’s head every morning before he went to school to keep up the ruse that undergoing chemotherapy.

Nguyen told her son that he received chemotherapy while he was asleep and he told authorities that he never got sick from the alleged treatments he received, according to CBS.

According to The Huffington Post, when authorities searched Nguyen’s home Thursday they found $23,000 in cash and she admitted that her son does not have cancer.

It was revealed that a portion of the money that was earned paid for a trip to Disneyland.

Authorities believe that Nguyen was the only person who knew her son did not have cancer.

"We don't have any reason to believe that anyone other than her knew the truth. The little boy believed he had cancer. The rest of the family believed he had cancer,” Arapahoe County Sheriff's Captain Larry Etheridge told ABC7.

Nguyen has been charged with theft, charitable fraud and child abuse.
