Chris Morena, frontman for Deftones, has announced the band began creating their eighth album. The band started collaborating ideas and putting things together last week, while Morena hasn’t put any efforts in thus far.
"We don't plan on what kind of record we're going to make," said Morena. "We react to each other – one guy starts playing something then the other guy reacts to it, and the other guys react to that. Next thing we know, we have a song. I think that's the best, organic way to write music. It's worked for us over the years," said Moreno according to to Rolling Stone.
The album is said to have less of a deliberate sound and more of an “organic” one.
Bassist Chi Cheng passed away in a car accident in 2008 and was taken off of life support last year—this will be their first album since the unfortunate death.
Crosses, or †††, was released last month by Moreno and acts as his electronic music side project. Although he has a major part in a metal band, he’s always appreciated music from the electronic genre.
Between July 4th and July 6th, Deftones will play at the Sonisphere Festival in Knebworth Park along with Iron Maiden and Metallica, as reported in to NME.Com.
