Arizona Diamondbacks left-handed starting pitcher Patrick Corbin was forced to leave Saturday's game due to stiffness in his throwing arm. The team announced Sunday that an MRI revealed that Corbin had damage to the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his left elbow.
Corbin was scheduled to pitch the season opener in Australia against the Los Angeles Dodgers, but will now have to be replaced. According to cbssports damage to the UCL most often requires Tommy John surgery. If Corbin does need the surgery he will most likely miss the entire 2014 season.
Wade Miley will replace Corbin for the opening day start. Miley was not expecting to make the trip to Sydney but will definitely step up in Corbin’s absence. According to foxsports Miley said, "I was 0 percent packed. But you know what, it's one of those things where it's really not a decision. You just do it. It's for the best, and we'll see what happens."
Corbin is scheduled to get a second opinion this week about the condition of his throwing arm.
