Tyler Perry's The Single Moms Club opened this weekend to very weak numbers.

The Wrap reports that Perry's Single Moms opened this weekend, earning only $8.3 million, despite being released in 1,896 theaters worldwide.

This marks Perry's worst film performance in his history, falling behind Daddy's Little Girls, which opened in 2007 with $11.2 million.

Perry's films usually earn an average of about $21 million, and Single Moms fell way below that threshold.

The film stars Nia Long, Amy Smart, Cocoa Brown, Wendi McClendon-Covey, and Zulay Henao, who create a support group for single mothers to discuss their problems.

Despite the low earning opening, the film did receive an A- from moviegoes on CinemaScore.

According to the Miami Herald, Perry explains that the idea for the film was inspired by his aunt who took care of him after his mother died.

"She raised these four boys by herself," Perry Said. "I started thinking about her life. This is my homage to her and every single mother out there."

Perry has a lot to fall back on. According to the Examiner, his collaboration with Oprah Winfrey and her network OWN, has lead to two hit series', The Haves and the Have Nots and Love Thy Neighbor, as well as a new talk show, and a television adaptation to Single Moms, scheduled to release later this year.
