Though hiding out in Russia to avoid the U.S., Edward Snowden will be speaking via teleconference at the 2014 SXSW Interactive Festival on Monday, March 10.
He was invited on to talk about, unsurprisingly, the NSA spying scandal and how technology can be used to protect against unwanted electronic intrusion, SXSW announced. Snowden will talk with American Civil Liberties Union principal technologist Christopher Soghoian.
ACLU Speech, Privacy & Technology Project director Ben Wizner will moderate the conversation. Wizner is also Snowden's legal advisor.
CNN reports that during the teleconference, those in the audience will be allowed to ask questions. Josh Baer, a SXSW festivalgoer is excited. "The news and the government each have so many different perspectives."
Baer added, "it's always refreshing to get it straight from the source."
The teleconference took SXSW Interactive director Hugh Forrest three months to get Snowden to participate.
Others that are scheduled to also speak at SXSW include Glenn Greenwald, a civil liberties lawyer and journalist, as well as the infamous WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. Both will also be attending via teleconference.
