Elton John will be getting married to his partner of eight years, David Furnish, in May.

Furnish told the Las Vegas Review Journal on Friday that the couple would be getting married in an English registry office in May, now that gay marriage is legal in England.

Furnish and John have been in a civil partnership for the past eight years. They have two kids together, Elijah, 1, and Zachary, 3, who will be in attendance at the wedding.

“We don’t feel the need to take an extra step legally,” Furnish said. “But since we’re committed for life, we feel it’s really important to take that step, and take advantage of that amazing change in legislation. We all live by example.”

John recently sat down with Matt Lauer for the Today Show and spoke about his feelings on the legalization of gay marriage in England, reports Today Entertainment.

“For this legislation to come through is joyous, and we should celebrate it,” he told Lauer. “We shouldn't just say, 'Oh, well we have a civil partnership. We're not going to bother to get married.' We will get married."

The first installment of the two-part interview with Elton John will air on Monday.
