A Texas man has been arrested for the murder of his daughter and her lover after both were found dead.
James Cosby, 46, reportedly killed his daughter, Britney Cosby, and her girlfriend, Crystal Jackson, because he was angry that his daughter was a lesbian. It is believed that Cosby was at least partially motivated to kill his daughter as her sexual orientation goes against the Koran, according to The New York Daily News.
The bodies of Britney Cosby and Crystal Jackson, both 24, were found March 6, around 7:30 am. Cosby died from blunt force trauma, while Jackson was shot.
Loranda McDonald, Britney Cosby's mother, told KHOU that James Cosby was angry that his daughter was gay.
"He said it to me a few times that he did not like the idea of her being gay," said McDonald.
Police have not found the murder weapons and are still unable to locate Britney Cosby’s car. They believe it may be crucial to this case.
Authorities believe that at least one murder occurred at the Cosby home as pools of blood were found in the residence, in Cosby’s bedroom. A shutter from a window was missing from the Cosby home and James Cosby said it was missing when he moved in. However, a shutter, which was covered in blood, was found near the bodies. The shutter had his fingerprints on it.
When Cosby was asked about the fingerprints on the bloody shutter at the scene, he wasn’t able to give a plausible answer.
James Cosby was released from prison in October after a two-year term, the penalty for not registering as a sex offender.
After his release, Cosby moved into the home shared by his mother and daughter.
In Cosby’s bedroom, the Koran was found open to a page that condemns homosexuality, Quanell X, a family advocate.
“It’s quite unfortunate but he had a real, real warped understanding, in my opinion, of the religion of Islam and its position on the gay lifestyle and what one should do,” Quanell X said.
Cosby’s bail is set at $500,000. He has been charged with two counts of tampering with evidence.
