A Florida couple has been arrested after acting erratically while on drugs and later found to have abandoned their young children.

Michael and Sarah Butcher, both 30, were arrested Friday at the Water’s Edge Resort in Florida. The couple was reportedly causing a disturbance and police were called after they refused to leave, according to The New York Daily News.

When police arrived, they found a red truck belonging to the Butchers parked illegally and when officers searched the vehicle, they found crystal meth and syringes.

At the police station, authorities found a baggie of meth in Michael Butcher’s pocket.

While the couple were in jail, a report came in from another officer who said that three children, aged 10, 8, and 6, were found walking in the woods and appeared to be, ‘very dirty, hungry, and cold,’ according to a police report.

The children told the police that their parents’ names are Michael and Sarah.

According to ABC News, the parents took the children to an area where they often camp and while the children played, their parents abandoned them.

It is unknown how long the children were on their own.

The Butchers have been charged with child neglect and Michael Butcher faces additional drug charges.

The children were taken in by the state and their parents remain in jail. They are being held without bail.
