A Florida man told police he didn’t know that cocaine was illegal in the state after being arrested.
Guy Lanchester, 46, was found with two others on Sunday, acting suspiciously. When police approached the group, Lanchester reportedly went behind a nearby flower pot and fumbled with a small bag containing a white, powdery substance. He then shoved both hands into the pot and left the bag there.
NY Daily News reports that police later found the substance, which tested positive for cocaine. There was less than a gram of cocaine in the flower pot.
When the officers explained to Lanchester at the jail as to why he was arrested, he seemed confused.
“I don’t understand,” Lanchester reportedly said. “I thought cocaine wasn’t illegal in Florida.”
According to ABC News, Lanchester was arrested for possession of drugs and tampering with evidence. He is currently being held in a Florida jail without bond.
According to police, the two individuals that were present with Lanchester were searched and then released by authorities.
