20th Century Fox is so confident that its Fantastic Four reboot is going to be a hit that it has a sequel planned already. The movie doesn’t come out until 2015, but the studio has scheduled a sequel for 2017. Fox has also set a date for The Wolverine 2.
News that there will be a follow-up to James Mangold’s The Wolverine is no surprise. It was reported back in November that Mangold and star Hugh Jackman were getting prepared for a new film together. The Wolverine grossed $413 million worldwide and is the top-grossing film in Fox’s X-Men franchise, notes The LA Times.
The Wolverine 2 will open on March 3, 2017.
The Fantastic Four reboot isn’t expected to open until June 16, 2015 with Josh Trank directing. Still, Fox scheduled FF 2 for July 14, 2017.
Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, Miles Teller and Jamie Bell will play the Fantastic Four team in the new films.
Jackman will be seen as Wolverine next in Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past in May.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Fox has also scheduled a mystery Marvel movie for July 13, 2018. The studio only has the film rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four characters.
