General Motors announced on Friday that another 824,000 vehicles are being recalled over the faulty ignition switch problem.
The cars recalled include 2008 through 2010 Chevrolet Cobalts, Pontiac Solstices and G5s, Saturn Skys and Ions, the Los Angeles Times reports. The Chevrolet HHR manufactured from 2008 through 2011 also was recalled.
GM spokesman Jim Cain said that the ignition switches in the new list of cars are fine, but the auto manufacturer is worried that many might have been repaired with a faulty switch, which is responsible for about 12 deaths.
Reuters notes that the recall now covers 2,591,665 cars. The initial recall was issued in February and was for the same cars from model years 2003 through 2007.
Though no deaths have been linked to the newer models just added to the recall, GM CEO Mary Barra said, "we are taking no chances with safety."
Those with affected vehicles will begin receiving notifications in the mail up through the latter half of April and will be able to get the ignition switch in their cars replaced "as parts become available."
GM also halted sales of Chevy Cruzes from 2013 and 2014 with 1.4-liter engines, but haven't revealed the reason yet.
