Google is always surprising us with fun and interactive homepages for holidays and random days of the week—for April Fool’s Day, Google is taking Google maps to a whole new level that will bring out your inner Ash Ketchum. That’s right 90s lovers, Pokémon will be incorporated into the online map system.
Some people enjoy a practical joke or two on the 1st of April while others despise such a trivial holiday—wherever you stand, maybe a Pokemon map will change your mind. According to, The Verge, a video is circulating that advertises Google Maps and Pokemon together, where map users can see Pokemon characters leap across their screen, ready to battle or ready to continue traveling.
It may not seem like the safest idea to take your smartphone hiking or around the town at the expense of being distracted by a Pokémon on your screen—the online ‘reality’ can result in some very real injuries.
Today, if you zoom into certain areas on Google Maps, you’ll stumble across some recognizable Pokémon, with or without the tall grass in your way. There’s even a built in feature that allows players to fill up a personal pokedex while collecting Pokémon, as reported by Cnet.
