Government considers boycotting Sochi Paralympics over Ukraine crisis

With the Sochi Paralympics set to start on Friday, some governments are still undecided as to whether or not they are going to attend the games.

According to ABC News, the Australian Government is considering boycotting the Paralympics in Russia due to the developing crisis in the Ukraine, but has yet to make a decision.

The U.S. is one of several countries to have already pulled delegations from the Games, because of the ongoing crisis.

On Sunday, The New York Times reported that British government officials would also be boycotting the Games, but the athletes would still be allowed to compete.

For Australia, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said that a number of options are being weighed.

"Australia will be in close contact over the situation with friends and allies in the coming days and will consider what further actions, such as boycotts or sanctions, may be taken," she said.

The Winter Paralympics include wheelchair curling, sledge hockey, para-nordic skiing and biathlon, para-alpine skiing and para-snowboarding.
