Iron Man 3 actor Guy Pearce is reportedly in talks to co-star in Black Mass, the Whitey Bulger film starring Johnny Depp as the notorious Boston mobster.
Pearce would play Bulger’s brother, Bill Bulger, reports Variety. The actor, who appeared in both The Hurt Locker and The King’s Speech, will be acting alongside Depp and Joel Edgerton, who has been cast as John Connolly, a disgraced FBI agent.
Black Mass is being directed by Scott Cooper (Out of the Furnace, Crazy Heart) and was originally an indie project from Cross Creek. Warner Bros. recently came on board to co-finance with Cross Creek.
In other Pearce news, Deadline has reported that he has dropped out of Strangerland, a movie about to be shot in Australia. He was replaced by Shakespeare in Love’s Joseph Fiennes. Nicole Kidman and Hugo Weaving are still set to star in the film.
In addition to Iron Man 3, Pearce recently made The Rover with Robert Pattinson.
