Greta Gerwig now has a new best friend. The actress’ How I Met Your Mother spinoff has gained Krysta Rodriguez, who will play the best friend of Gerwig’s Sally character.
Rodriguez is a Broadway veteran who appeared on NBC’s Smash, which lasted just two seasons. According to The Hollywood Reporter, her character is Juliet, a party girl who runs a successful fashion blog and is happy when Sally breaks up with her husband.
Gerwig was cast in the show last month and will be the narrator of the show. It is similar to How I Met Your Mother, but will be called How I Met Your Dad. It starts with Sally’s divorce from a boring husband of less than a year. Gerwig, who last starred in Frances Ha, will also co-write and produce.
Drew Tarver has also been cast as Todd, Sally’s brother’s husband.
HIMYD is being developed by Emily Spivey with HIMYM creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas. The CBS pilot is being filmed in Los Angeles, but will move to New York to accommodate Gerwig if it gets a series order.
Entertainment Weekly notes that Rodriguez played Ana Vargas on Smash and was a part of the original Addams Family cast on Broadway in 2009.
