The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has just been released on DVD and Blu-ray and the film is already seeing a 40% increase in digital sales over the first film that was released by Lionsgate.

To date, Catching Fire has sold 3.9 million copies on DVD and Blu-ray compared with Hunger Games was which was released on DVD back in August of 2012, Variety reported.

Lionsgate did report that 50% of all packed media sales for Fire were from Blu-ray purchased. Hunger Games only had 35% of packed media sales go to Blu-ray when it was released.

Even though not many details around the digital sales have been released Catching Fire was the most downloaded film across a variety of platforms including; iTunes, Microsoft Xbox, Amazon Instant Video, Walmart’s Vudu, Comcast Xfinity, Verizon FiOS, Google Play and Sony Entertainment Network.

Digital Sales as a whole have been increasing for films. Following their best picture win at the Oscars 12 Years a Slave saw an increase in digital sales. The film has also seen an increase in illegal downloads since it's Oscar win as well, Time reported.
