Broadway star Idina Menzel finally spoke out about John Travolta’s now-infamous Adele Dazeem Oscars flub, which kept the two stars in the headlines for days after this month’s awards ceremony. Menzel admitted in an interview this week that it did surprise her just before she belted out “Let It Go” before millions of people.
“That threw me for a minute, but then I just got back on track and reminded myself of where I was,” Menzel told Billboard.
However, Menzel said that since the mistake, Travolta has been “really gracious” and that they’re now “buddies.”
“Please. I mean, I've only benefited from it,” she told Billboard.
Travolta was supposed to introduce Menzel before she sang “Let It Go,” the song from Frozen that later won Best Original Song. However, he mistakenly called her “Adele Dazeem,” even though he was looking right at a teleprompter. A Vine video of it went viral and it inspired Slate’s Travolta Name Generator.
“I've been beating myself up all day,” Travolta said in a statement from his rep. “Then I thought, what would Idina Menzel say? She'd say, let it go, let it go! Idina is incredibly talented and I am so happy Frozen took home two Oscars Sunday night!”
Menzel will be seen in If/Then on Broadway, which officially opens on March 30.
