Sony Computer Entertainment Inc, announced on Thursday that after 19 years Jack Tretton would be stepping down as president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America.
According to a press release, the decision was a mutual one between both Tretton and SCEA.
Tretton will be replaced by Executive Vice President and COO of Sony Network Entertainment International Shawn Layden. He has worked with Playstation for 15 years and was previously the president of Sony Computer Entertainment Japan.
"Working at SCEA for the past 19 years has been the most rewarding experience of my career," Tretton said. "Although I will deeply miss the talented team at SCEA and the passion demonstrated every day by our fans, I'm very excited about starting the next chapter of my career."
Tretton helped found SCEA back in 1995 and has been around for each new iteration of the Playstation. During his time as an executive with the Sony, the Playstation 2 hit 50 million units sold domestically. Under his watch, the Playstation 4 also set a new record for launch units sold, with over 1 million in only 24 hours.
