Everest, a Universal film that will find Oscar nominees Jake Gyllenhaal and Josh Brolin climbing the titular mountain, has been delayed by seven months.
The 3D adventure film is being directed by Baltasar Kormakur (2 Guns) and features a large ensemble cast headed by Gyllenhaal and Brolin. John Hawkes, Jason Clarke, Martin Henderson, Emily Watson, Michael Kelly and Thomas M. Wright all co-star in the film, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Kormakur is actually shooting on location in Nepal, although some scenes will be made in the Italian Alps. Footage will also be shot at Pinewood Studios in the U.K. and Italy’s Cinecitta Studios. Mark Medoff and Simon Beaufoy wrote the script, which is based on a failed 1996 climb up the mountain. It is being produced by Working Title and Cross Creek Pictures, with Universal handling distribution.
Everest was originally scheduled for release on Feb. 27, 2015, but now won’t be seen until Sept. 18, 2015.
According to Deadline, by moving the release, the film will not have to open against Warner Bros.’ Focus with Margot Robbie and Will Smith and Selfless with Ryan Reynolds.
There are no other films scheduled for Sept. 18, 2015.
Gyllenhaal’s next film is Enemy, which was directed by Prisoners’ Denis Villeneuve.
