Last year, one of the most difficult public sagas in Hollywood was the production of Jane Got A Gun, an indie western actress Natalie Portman was starring in. The drama all started when acclaimed We Need To Talk About Kevin director Lynne Ramsay didn’t show up for the first day of shooting and culminated with a lawsuit filed by the producers in November. Now, the suit has been settled.
The two sides sent a statement to Screen Daily, confirming that they reached a settlement. No financial terms were released.
“Jane Got a Gun Production LLC and Lynne Ramsay announce the pending civil action and all other disputes between the parties associated with Jane Got a Gun Motion Picture have been resolved privately and to their mutual satisfaction,” the statement read.
The lawsuit claimed that Ramsay was already paid $500,000 to direct and work on the script. She allegedly never followed through, failing to even work on the script. There was a litany of other claims, including that she showed up drunk.
After Ramsay left, a casting carousel began, even though Warrior director Gavin O’Connor was hired within hours of Ramsay leaving. Jude Law was originally set to play a key role, which then went to Bradley Cooper. When Cooper left, Portman’s Star Wars co-star Ewan McGregor joined. Portman and Joel Edgerton stayed on.
Jane Got A Gun is scheduled for release on Aug. 29.
