Singer Jennifer Holliday is returning to the music industry with her sixth album, The Song is You.

The Song is You is her first full length album of new material in 22 years, according to The Huffington Post. Holliday was best known for her performance of Effie in the original Broadway production of Dreamgirls. After her meteoric rise to fame, she was signed to a major record label and released her debut album, Feel My Soul in 1983. Holliday was dropped by her label when her weight climbed to 400 pounds.

According to the Associated Press, Holliday said, "It was devastating for me as an artist and human being. People say you have a gift from God, but still saying, `No.' Things went terribly downhill. Not having a label, being overweight, music and life in limbo. Those were very hard times for me."

Since then, she has undergone gastric bypass surgery, and enjoys how things look now that she is 200 pounds slimmer. Holliday is quick to embrace social media networks like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram as she continues to tell people about The Song is You.
