Johnny Cash recorded many, many more tracks before his death in 2003 that have never seen the light of day. While there have already been several releases since the Country legend died and there’s a new one out this week, Cash’s son revealed that there are many more releases that we can expect.
In an interview with The Guardian, John Carter Cash revealed that Cash sill has “four or five” more albums worth of music the family can release from the American Recordings series with producer Rick Rubin.
“There are a few things that are in the works right now – probably four or five albums if we wanted to release everything,” John Carter Cash told the Guardian. “There may be three or four albums worth of American Recordings stuff, but some of it may never see the light of day.”
Although John Carter Cash said there’s more music from American Recordings, the ‘new’ album, Out Among The Stars, is actually music recorded during the early 1980s.
“I just always remember everything that Dad ever did, he gave his full heart to,” Cash’s son told Billboard. “We always try to stay true to that in the estate, doing things as he would have done, and basically act as if he is in the room. This is something I know my father would have worked on tirelessly.”
Columbia picked “She Used To Love Me A Lot” as the album’s single and did release a video for it.
