The crippling anticipation of Johnny Cash’s “lost album” Out Among the Stars is now put to an end. The album is presently streaming, one week before it’s March 25th release, at The Guardian.
Formerly unheard songs from 1981 to 1984 will make up the 12-song LP, according to Pitchfork. During those years, Billy Sherrill was recruited to produce and help Cash through a rough point in his career, but instead the label dropped Cash as his fame dwindled and pushed the tapes to the side.
The recordings resurfaced last year by the joined efforts of archivists and Cash’s son, John Carter Cash. The lost songs were recorded at both Nashville's Columbia Studios and Sound Studios and include duets with both June Carter Cash and Waylon Jennings.
As of now, pre-orders are available for fans to immerse themselves in the croons, ballads and unique styles of Johnny Cash. Teasers as well as a morose video for “She Used to Love Me a Lot,”have already been released.
"The depth that's there reminds me of the real serious stuff that Dad did later in his life. And I truly think it's one of the beautiful undiscovered gems in my dad's catalog," John Carter Cash told Rolling Stone.
