Only one actor from the original Jurassic Park films will appear in Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World and it’s probably the last person any fan would expect. It’s not going to be Jeff Goldblum or Sam Neill. It’s going to be... B.D. Wong.
In an interview with IGN, Trevorrow went into surprising detail about the making of the film, which is about to start shooting. He didn’t say anything about the plot, but delved a little deeper into the characters who will be appearing in the film. He said that the only character to appear in Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film will be Wong, who played a small part as scientist Dr. Henry Wu.
Trevorrow said that he has too much respect for the actors of the original films to “shoehorn them into this story for my own sentimental reasons,” noting that the series isn’t about the specific characters.
“But there is a character from the first film who makes sense in our world,” the Safety Not Guaranteed director explained. “This hasn’t been announced yet, but BD Wong will be returning as Dr. Henry Wu. He had a much larger role in the original novel, he was the engineer of this breakthrough in de-extinction.”
The character “spent two decades living in Hammond’s shadow, underappreciated. We think there’s more to his story,” Trevorrow added.
The director also explained a bit more about Chris Pratt’s hero character. He is a scientist, but can also help anyone survive the jungle. “He’s a great contrast for Bryce Dallas Howard’s character, who starts off very corporate, very controlled,” he said. “Until the running and screaming starts. Then they need each other.”
This is actually the first confirmation that Bryce Dallas Howard will be in the film, notes CinemaBlend. She’s been linked to the film since September.
Just last month, it was reported that Vincent D’Onofrio will be the villain. Trevorrow didn’t say anything about that.
Jurassic World is set to open on June 12, 2015.
