Three of the five juveniles taken into custody on Tuesday in connection with an attack on a Temple University student have been charged as adults.
According to WPVI, the District Attorney’s Office has charged Najee Bilaal, 16, Zaria Estes, 15 and Kanesha Gainey, 15, with Aggravated Assault, Conspiracy, Possession of an Instrument of a Crime, Terroristic Threats, Simple Assault and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.
Surveillance video of the group was released a few days after the attack occurred and the perpetrators turned themselves in. Police are still looking for two more suspects.
FOX 29 noted that authorities have said that the teens assaulted Temple students and in one case hit a victim in the face with a brick. Officials also said that at least one of the teens tried to recruit a "flash mob" to take part in the attacks.
Late last week, a male and female student were walking together when the group approached and started to taunt them. The female student started to push them back and told them to stop and that is when she was punched and then twice smashed in the face and head with a large brick. The 19-year-old had to have emergency surgery at a nearby hospital to save her dislocated teeth.
Bail for Estes and Bilaal was set at $100,000 and Gainey’s bail was set at 75,000.
