Kevin Spacey definitely likes to play powerful politicians. During a break between House of Cards production, the two-time Oscar winner will get to play Winston Churchill in a film about one of the most powerful leaders during World War II.
The project is called Captain of the Gate, reports The Hollywood Reporter, which first confirmed the news. It will be completely financed by Sierra/Affinity, whic hhopes to make the movie for just $20 million. StudioCanal, which just had an international success with Liam Neeson’s Non-Stop, is in talks to co-produce.
Captain will focus on Churchill’s time as British Prime Minister at the beginning of World War II, when he guided the U.K. against Hitler and Germany. Churchill had two tenures as Prime Minister, first from 1940 to 1945 and then from 1951 to 1955.

While there’s no director attached, History Channel documentary vet Ben Kaplan is writing the script, notes TIME. Kaplan’s credits include History’s Ronald Reagan documentary, Vietnam in HD and WWII in HD.
Spacey currently plays the conniving politician Frank Underwood on Netflix’s House of Cards. He has ties to England, as he’s called the U.K. home and is the artistic director at the Old Vic. He also worked with his American Beauty director Sam Mendes for a Richard III stage production.
