Just days after Ivan Reitman confirmed that he will not direct Ghostbusters III following Harold Ramis’ death, it is being reported that Chris Miller and Phil Lord are in very early talks to replace him.
A source for TheWrap said that the LEGO Movie duo are in talks with Sony. Of course, the two have worked with the studio before, having directed the well-received 21 Jump Street. They are also working on the sequel, 22 Jump Street, which opens in June.
Sony and reps for the duo did not comment.
On Tuesday, Reitman told Deadline that he informed Sony he did not want to direct the film himself after Ramis’ death in February. Instead, he will produce and said he’d help find his replacement. In addition, he said that the studio does like Etan Cohen’s script.
Reitman directed the first two Ghostbusters films and just finished Draft Day.
Although a LEGO Movie 2 is in the works, Lord and Miller will not be directing it. Warner Bros. hired animation co-director Chris McKay to replace them.
