Rapper Lil Boosie was released from prison Wednesday night after serving only four years of his eight-year prison sentence in Louisiana’s State Penitentiary.
The rapper, born as Torrence Hatch, was found guilty on drug charges and for violating his probation in late 2011. According to MTV News, Hatch allegedly was affiliated with a shooting that occurred in October 2009 that resulted in the death of rap artist Terry Boyd. After a week of testimony and jury deliberation, Boosie was found not guilty of first-degree murder. However, in November 2011, he was sentenced up to eight years for conspiring to smuggle drugs into prison.
According to BET News, judges agreed to return Boosie’s computers and hard drives in late 2013 due to “good behavior”. There also were speculations that Boosie was set up by an informant who played on his codeine addiction. His lawyer argued that he was the victim in the case. While in prison, there have been reports that he continued to work on his music. International Business Times reveals that the rapper is scheduled to attend a press conference with Atlantic Records and Trill Entertainment Label on March 10th, where he will clarify where he stands with the record label.
As the story still develops, ABC News reports that the rapper will be on supervised parole until 2018 and that the time and date of his release wasn’t made public for the sake of “keeping everything calm.”
