The chance to open up for Katy Perry on her latest tour supporting PRISM would be a once in a lifetime opportunity for an up and coming musician but for Lorde, the chance was easy to pass up.

In a recent interview with an Australian radio show, the "Royals" singer explained why she turned down the offer to open for Perry. "I want to be headlining my own shows instead of supporting someone else," said Lorde.

The singer also explained that she was still in the early stages of her career and didn't want opinions from others. "I'm in the really early stages of an artist's career it's important for them to establish themselves for themselves. I'm just basically really stubborn and I want to be really independent," said the "Team" singer.

The singer seems to be doing fine on her own, she recently announced an Australian tour and had Bruce Springsteen cover her single "Royals" at a recent show. Lorde explained that the cover made her tear up because it was such a high honor to be covered by The Boss himself,
Rolling Stone reported.
