M.I.A. asks Madonna for $16 million to pay NFL lawsuit.
NME reports that M.I.A. has turned to Madonna for help paying her $16 million fine for showing her middle finger during the 2012 Superbowl halftime show.
The NFL has sued M.I.A. for $1.5 million for breach of contract, and have now added $15.1 million to the suit, which will cover the money advertisers would have spent for the two minutes M.I.A. performed with Madonna.
A spokesperson for M.I.A. says that the suit is unlawful, and it's only serves to make an example out of anyone who crosses the NFL.
Rolling Stone reports that the Federal Communications Committee, FCC, received 222 complaints, most of them regarding M.I.A.'s middle finger.
The NFL and NBC have apologized to viewers, and have been pursuing a fine from M.I.A. for the past two years.
M.I.A released a statement which explains that the NFL and NBC should hold themselves responsible for not catching the action and censoring it within their five second delay.
"Discovery has not been taken yet to determine whether contractually NBC owed a duty to NFL to properly operate the delay system," the document said.
M.I.A. went to Twitter to ask Madonna if she could borrow the money for the lawsuit.
