Pop icon Madonna is ready to try her hand at directing a film again. She’s set to helm Ade: A Love Story, a film version of Rebecca Walker’s first novel.
Ade will be produced by Bruce Cohen Productions’ Bruce Cohen with Jessica Leventhal and Walker, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Cohen recently co-produced David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook and co-produced the 1999 Best Picture Oscar winner American Beauty. He’s also working on a film version of The Fifth Beatle.
The story centers on a college student who falls in love with a Swahili man named Ade. They hope to get married and move to Kenya, but a civil war breaks their hopes for a simple life, according to Deadline.
Ade is in the very early stages of production, as Cohen and Madonna have not found a screenwriter to adapt the novel.
This will be Madonna’s third feature. She made her directorial debut in 2008 with Filth and Wisdom. In 2011, she directed W.E., a period piece about King Edward VII’s relationship with Wallis Simpson. Although poorly received by critics, the film did earn an Oscar nomination for costume design and was released by The Weinstein Company.
