A magnitude-6.9 earthquake hit the Pacific Ocean Sunday night, off the North California coast, the U.S. Geological Survey confirmed.
The earthquake hit just 48 miles off the coast of Eureka, reports NBC Bay Area. Eureka police said they could feel the earthquake, which they say lasted 20 to 30 seconds. They have not received any reports of damage.
One Ferndale resident told CBS San Francisco that it was “a long slow earthquake.” Another resident in Crescent City said she could feel her house shaking.
The USGS said that the quake had a depth of 4.3 miles. USA Today reports that it happened around 10:18 p.m. PDT. No threat of a tsunami is expected.
There were also no injuries reported. A tsunami warning was not issued.

NBC Bay Area notes that the Northern California Earthquake Data Center said that there is a 90 percent chance of a “strong and possibly damaging” earthquake hitting over the next few days. Sunday’s quake was followed by several aftershocks, with on reaching magnitude-4.6 just 30 minutes after the initial quake.
