A Michigan man who had his license plate stolen is being fined for parking violations. Even though he reported it stolen, he has still racked up $300 in fines.

According to z94, Joe Polzin's license plate was stolen in November of 2013. Polzin reported the plate as stolen and it was replaced by the state.

Yahoo! News noted that the six parking tickets he was issued are apparently from two different vehicles. Polzin was curious as to why this didn't trigger any question from the state.

It wasn't until recently that Polzin began getting notices in the mail for parking crimes that the person who stole his license plate was responsible for. Polzin reportedly contacted the Secretary of State's office to correct the issue, but they refused to correct it unless he provided proof of the stolen plate.

The situation has left Polzin frustrated. He simply does not have the money to cover the fines.

"It's pretty stressful and quite upsetting, makes you mad. They told me I gotta prove myself innocent before they’ll do anything about the tickets," said Polzin.

Polzin explained that he had the paperwork showing that he paid a five dollar fee for a new license plate and that he reported it missing or stolen. However, the debt from the unpaid parking tickets have been sent to a collection agency and there is not much he can do about the issue.
