An octogenarian on Staten Island shot his grandson Friday night then fatally shot the grandson's girlfriend before fleeing the scene and taking his own life.

Heriberto Pagan, 86, shot his grandson, Michael Feliciano, outside of a house before going inside and shooting Claritie Christina Huerta in the head, reports The Associated Press. Pagan then took a car and left the scene before eventually turning the gun on himself.

The 47-year-old grandson survived the shooting and is currently in stable condition at the Staten Island University Hospital after initially being in critical condition.

Unfortunately, his 28-year-old girlfriend wasn't as lucky and died after being taken to the hospital, notes the New York Daily News. Pagano was later found lying by his car still alive. He died shortly afterwards at the Richmond University Medical Center.

Police say that the incident started as a family dispute when Feliciano's mother tossed him and his girlfriend to the curb and somehow Pagan got involved. An infant girl in the house was not hurt.
