Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment and chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, was the person who pitched the idea of a Spider-Man reboot to director Marc Webb. At first Webb though the idea was crazy and he was shocked he would even be considered for the project.
Webb reflected back on this pitch at his time during the film festival portion of SXSW, Variety reported.
He reflected more on that conversation with the audience saying that in the end Pascal told Webb, "Honey, you can’t turn down Spider-Man.”
After the incredible success of The Amazing Spider Man, Webb was tasked with directing the next two films in the upcoming trilogy.
Webb had a $200 million dollar budget for the sequel to The Amazing Spider Man but he told the audience that it was important for the first film to be grounded. "I'm not beholden to smallness, I wanted to make it fantastic and big," said Webb. The director added that even with the scale of the film being large it had to be grounded.
The Amazing Spider Man was one of the first big films that Webb had the chance to helm. Webb is known for the indie classic 500 Days of Summer, that film made for $7.5 million. He started working in the film industry directing music videos for Green Day and Fergie.
Now Webb is promoting the upcoming sequel to The Amazing Spider Man, which is set to swing into theaters May 2, 2014 and recently some news broke about the film. It was announced that villain Rhino would only be in the film for a few minutes,Metro reported.
