U.S. Senator Rand Paul won the presidential preference straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference.
Paul, who ran during the last presidential campaign in 2012, now has a higher standing should he run in 2016, reports Bloomberg.
The poll was determined over a three day conservative gathering in Maryland. Paul won 31 percent of the support.
Second to Paul in the poll was Texas Senator Ted Cruz, who won 11 percent of the vote.
According to NPR, it is likely that Hillary Clinton is the top choice for the Democratic Party in the 2016 presidential election. It is still widely questioned whether or not 2008 vice presidential nominee, Sarah Palin, plans to run in 2016.
The Republican party also addressed at the conference that the GOP’s appeal to the public needs to be wider, as they continue to have try to appeal to minorities and women.
Sarah Palin also spoke at the conference, telling woman not to “let them use you- unless you choose to be their political pawn.”
