Mark Foster is making a splash with his band, Foster the People, and their new album, Supermodel which came out March 14.
According to the Associated Press Foster said, "I feel like trying to write a song in order to be a big hit is just not something I'm interested in because it's not going to come from an authentic place of expression.”
His new album with Foster the People, Supermodel, is the second album with Foster’s band. Foster’s influences include West African music, the Clash, and David Bowie, according to Billboard. The newest effort includes guitar driven tunes and new perspectives.
Foster’s band resides in Malibu, California. The new work was produced by Grammy-winning producer Paul Epworth who previously worked with Adele on 21. His new album features pop songs with Dadaist lyrics. The song, “Are You What You Want to Be?” was inspired by a trip to Morocco. Foster says that the album looks at community, isolation, and culture over time. Their first album was called Torches and it debuted in 2011.
