Meningitis may be to blame for the death of a Drexel University student who was found dead in her sorority house.
Although an official cause of death has not yet been determined the Associated Press reported that Stephanie Ross’ case is being investigated as a suspected case of meningitis.
Ross, a Pittsburgh native, was found unresponsive in her bed by her Phi Mu - Beta Tau sorority sisters on Monday morning. She was then taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead.
WPVI noted that precautions are being made to prevent the spread of the potentially deadly disease and that anyone who had contact with Ross should go to the Drexel University Student Health Center for antibiotics.
The sophomore student majored in mechanical engineering and played for the college's club softball team.
In addition to a statement from the university, other Drexel fraternities and sororities offered their support.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the sisters of Phi Mu - Beta Tau (Drexel University). Your Drexel Greeks are here for you in this hard time," posted fraternity Alpha Chi Rho.
