Scientists have discovered a meteorite in Antarctica which supports the theory that there was once water on Mars.

The meteorite has been on Earth for an estimated 50,000 years old, reports Business Standard. The meteorite itself is about 1.3 billion years old and was made from lava that was on Mars.

At this time, scientists are only able to study Mars from robots that have been sent there. Finding meteorites on Earth is the only way scientists can study the planet up close. According to Zee News, more tests can be done when a physical piece of Mars present on Earth because there is no worry about the product being contaminated.

By finding remnants of water on Mars, scientists are a step further to finding out whether or not there was ever life on the red planet.

There is, however, still evidence from past researchers that have found the possibility of water on Mars to be very likely, dating back to 1996.
