Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney wrote an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal where he slammed President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton over foreign policy in dealing with Russia and Ukraine.
In the column, Romney wrote that the pair have "traveled the world in pursuit of their promise to reset relations and to build friendships across the globe. Their failure has been painfully evident: It is hard to name even a single country" who now has closer ties with the U.S.
He says the president failed to act early enough to properly head off Russia before the country entered Ukraine.
Romney pointed out that the U.S. has struggled in dealing with foreign policy, listing North Korea, Iran, Syria and others' recent actions as signs the country isn't properly dealing with them. The Republican said part of the problem, much like with Russia is "our leader's terrible timing." He said the U.S. had time to act, but failed to do so at the right time, leaving the U.S. "without acceptable options."
USA Today notes that some have begun wondering if perhaps Romney had been right during his presidential campaign to say that Russia was "without question our No. 1 geopolitical foe."
Arizona Sen. John McCain recently spoke up and said that though Obama might believe the Cold War ended, clearly Russian President Vladimir Putin believes otherwise.
Romney then ended his op-ed with the belief that Obama and the current Secretary of State John Kerry could still do well in foreign policy provided they learn to act quicker, writing "Timing is of the essence."
