NBC has released the first image of actor Matt Ryan as John Constantine, the title character for a new DC Comics and Warner Bros. TV pilot in development. The network landed the pilot, which is one of three in the works based on DC Comics characters this pilot season.

Constantine landed at NBC in September. It will be written by the go-to DC Comics writer David S. Goyer (Man of Steel) with Daniel Cerone (The Mentalist). They will also produce the series.

Ryan, a Welsh actor who starred in the short-lived Criminal Minds spinoff Suspect Behavior, was cast in February. He will play the title role, a con man who is suddenly thrust into a supernatural world. Now a detective, he is tasked with saving the world from dark forces. His first adventure will be set in London.

Ryan looks more like the character that Keanu Reeves, who played the character in the 2005 film, which earned a mixed response from critics.

Constantine is one of three DC pilots in the works. The CW is working on The Flash, which will star Grant Gustin as the super speedster. Over at Fox, there is Gotham, a Batman prequel that will focus on Jim Gordon and the origins of Batman’s rogues gallery.
