A new video has surfaced online that proposes that the famous hoverboards seen in Back to the Future Part II may or not be one step closer to reality.
A company called HUVr has released a video through their Youtube channel demonstrating a functional hoverboard as seen in the movie, featuring celebrities like Tony Hawk, Terrell Owens and even Doc Brown himself, Christopher Lloyd.
CTV News reports that the company was completely unknown until their hoverboard video started going viral, and points out that many commentators of the video are saying it’s just the next big viral hoax.
The company’s own website states that the hoverboard started as a project from a couple of students from the MIT physics graduate program. HUVr states that their overall goal is to “improve the efficiency, speed and sustainability of mass transpiration….Our team consists of materials science, electricity and magnetism experts who’ve solved an important part of one of science’s mysteries: the key to antigravity.”
A destination time of December 2014 appears on HUVr’s website. Back to the Future Part II, released in 1989, envisioned a future where hoverboards would become standard transportation by the year 2015.
