While enjoying a kale salad on Tuesday afternoon, a Manhattan woman found a severed lizard head mixed into her lunch. She was completely shocked, and grossed out by the reptile head interrupting her lunch.

According to the NY Post Robin Sandusky, 31, who is a theatrical agent in Manhattan, ordered a fairly inexpensive salad from Guy & Gallard, a deli on West 40th Street where she was greeted with a slithery green surprise. Her lunch was delivered to her office in Chelsea.

Sandusky spoke with the Daily News and said, “I was just grossed out. I thought it was a piece of asparagus, but then I saw the eye.”

Sandusky is a loyal customer and has ordered salads from this deli before, but this was definitely a first. She has ordered from this deli almost everyday for the past two weeks, and no problems had occurred until this.

She repackaged it up and returned it back to the deli. She opted for the refund of her $4.25 salad when they offered to replace it. “I’m going to be fine tomorrow,” she said. But right now I’m still a little freaked out.”

The manager of the deli was just as surprised as she was. “Honestly, I’ve never heard of something like this,” he said. “I’ve never seen a lizard in New York!”

TIME reports that managing partner, Jason Jeffries, of Guy & Gallard, said that they always receive good inspections and “are currently looking into this issue.”
