Seattle police reexamined evidence from Kurt Cobain’s suicide case last week and decided to release a series of morose pictures taken at the scene of the Nirvana frontman’s death. Previously unreleased and unseen, the photo gallery chock-full of dark photos is available for viewing at CBS News.
There wasn’t any information that justified re-opening his case, but the gloomy photos have now been circulating the internet, giving Nirvana fans a deeper look into Cobain’s final day. Pictures show Cobain’s suicide note stabbed with a red pen, his wallet and ID, and the singer’s cigar box which held all of his drug paraphernalia, according to Rolling Stone.
One picture contains Cobain’s well-known heroin kit, which took form of an old cigar box—knowing that picture was taken on the day he died makes it even more grim. The 20th anniversary of Cobain’s death is coming up next month, which explains why he’s been all over the news lately.
His hometown, Aberdeen, Washington made an official “Kurt Cobain Day” on February 20th and a Cobain Doppelganger appeared in a Dutch beer ad, which shows the late Nirvana frontman alive and relaxing on a tropical island with a refreshing beer. He will also have his own comic book illustrated by Jayfri Hashin, that will highlight his early music career and his quick rise to fame and fortune.
Along with Kiss, Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates, Cat Stevens and Linda Ronstadt, Nirvana will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 10th at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
