When 20th Century Fox announced a slate of release dates last week, one of them was a mystery project from director Ridley Scott for March 2016. It is now being reported that the project is actually Prometheus 2 and the acclaimed British director has picked a writer to work with.
Veteran writer Michael Green, who recently wrote Green Lantern and was hired to write Blade Runner 2 back in June 2013, has been picked to write Prometheus 2, reports TheWrap. A source told the site that production could start as early as this fall, meaning that Scott is taking no time off after he completes Exodus for Fox.
The original 2012 film was an quasi-prequel to Scott’s 1979 classic Alien. While it was initially supposed to be a straight prequel, the film developed into its own project and grossed $400 million worldwide. The ending featured Noomi Rapace as Elizabeth Shaw and Michael Fassbender as the android David as the last survivors of their crew of explorers. It certainly ended with a cliffhanger, so the new film can pick up right where it left off. Green’s sequel is expected to be more in line with the horror aspects of the Alien franchise, according to TheWrap’s source.
Fox has been hoping to get Prometheus 2 made as soon as possible. Back in June 2013, Jack Plagen (Transcendence) was tapped to write the first script.
Last week, Fox announced the release dates for Marvel sequels to The Wolverine and Fantastic Four, plus a mystery Marvel project.
