For the second straight week, a new rap album has topped the Billboard 200 album chart. Rick Ross’ Mastermind stormed to the top of the chart, even beating Pharrell Williams’ latest album, G I R L.
Nielsen SoundScan data shows that Mastermind started off with 179,000 copies sold, reports Billboard. While that’s a nice start for any album this year, it’s actually a considerable drop from his previous records. God Forgives, I Don’t also started at No. 1 in 2012, but with 218,000 copies sold. His last five albums, including Mastermind, have all reached No. 1, while his 2010 major label debut Teflon Don failed to hit the top.
Even though G I R L included the hit “Happy” and Williams has gained plenty of exposure lately, the album only started at No. 2. Still, it did sell 112,000 copies. It has been on the market since Monday.
The Frozen soundtrack fell to No. 3 with 100,000 copies. It’s already sold 1.3 million copies (including 994,000 since January).
Lea Michele scored a decent start with Louder at No. 4. It sold 60,000 copies in its first week. Eli Young Band’s 10,000 Towns started its run at No. 5 with just 36,000 copies sold.
Beck’s Morning Phase hit No. 6 with 33,000 copies sold. The rest of the top 10 includes Lorde’s Pure Heroine (31,000); last week’s chart-topper, ScHoolboy Q’s Oxymoron (30,000); Eric Church’s The Outsiders (30,000); and Ashanti’s Braveheart (28,000).
“Happy” topped the Digital Songs Chart again with 490,000 downloads.
