Russia Today news anchor Liz Wahl resigned on the air Wednesday as she couldn't work for a news station that "whitewashes" President Vladimir Putin's actions.

Most of RT's coverage of the Ukraine situation has featured a slant towards approving of Russia's actions, according to CNN and Wahl had decided she'd seen enough and it was time to move on from the network.

Wahl explained that her family escaped Hungary from Soviet forces in the Hungarian Uprising of 1956 and she didn't agree with "a network funded by the Russian government that whitewashes the actions of Putin."

The network slammed her resignation noting that she should have first gone to the editor and then quietly resigned. Wahl's actions were "nothing more than a self-promotional stunt."

Wahl's resignation followed just days after another anchor disagreed Russia's actions in Crimea on-air, reports The Guardian. News anchor Abby Martin said, "what Russia did is wrong," and she was "strongly against" moving military forces into Crimea.

A short time later, the network released a statement saying that Martin lacked "a deep knowledge" of the true issues in Crimea and she would get a chance to fix that by being sent there.

The news anchor later turned to social media to say that she won't be going to Russian-backed Crimea.
